Ways of study :D

Last night, he really make me touched when I requested him to tell me the ways to study. And, he even message me to read my mailbox.

The below article is the BEST prove !

To repay his hard work, I kindly post his tips here.

Do appreciate it.

Or else, you get lost !!!

X.

Well, study is a long-run process, and once you decide to adapt a new one, you have to take it up for sometime for it to become a habit. (Well, I heard that there is a research said that a habit can be formed if you did it continuously for 100days, like wake up 5am in the morning). Way of study also varies among people, some might think this is good, while other might think this is not even good. It depends on you yourself to make some changes from different sources (since there is no trademark on ways of study). So, the following are my ways of study :

  1. I took up habits to sleep early and wake up early, about 10 or 11pm to bed, then 3 something wake up (that is during my SPM period, now I changed a bit, cause no more tuition, bedtime 12am to 5am). Things have reason behind it. Your body need to rest before 1pm, because your body will start detoxification at 11pm. If you sleep early, your body can detox efficiently and you will feel more refreshed after waking up. I know this can be quite hard for you to do it immediately, so do it moderately, try to sleep earlier and set alarm to wake up earlier, maybe not 3am, 4.30 or 5am will do. Once you have a healthier body, you need not worry much for taking supplements.

  2. Study overnight is not my style. Haha, because after 11pm, my mind can't really focus anymore, although I can keep awake but my mind already shut down the learning department, vary among people too. Research showed that, for most people, they can absorb more information in early of the morning than midnight. Well, it is true for me, but others I'm not sure.

  3. Set time limit for each of your period of study. Your must have a clear understanding and objectives on the topic that you are going to study. Set a time limit like 30 to 45 minutes for each period (Most people can't concentrate after 30 to 45 minutes, that's why your class period is 35 minutes instead of 1 hour for each period) For example, before you begin to study, like you are going to memorize maksud nilai nilai in Bidang 7 for Moral, you have to force yourself to really concentrate in that 30 to 45 minutes. And of course, don't set too high objectives in a sudden like, finish study all about Bab 7 for Sejarah in 30 minutes, do it moderately.

  4. From Point 3 above, therefore I recommend you to study in the early of morning. After you wake up, do the routine work, something that refresh you from a blurry state (brush teeth, wash face, etc.), then before you start study, take 10 minutes, roughly, not too much, to activate your mind. Some IQ question or puzzle, easy but can make you think (For me, I took Sudoku from The Star). That is to prepare your mind to get ready for some heavy jobs later (just like warming up before you do some vigorous exercise). Study in the early of morning got some advantages, it is quiet already, except for some housewives waking up to prepare breakfast, but they won't cause much noises than some night party your neighbors might held that can disrupt your study very easily. Besides, the air is fresh but doesn't mean you have to study in your backyard outside your house because Aedes might woke up that time too. And compared to overnight study, you might not realise how late you had study because the sky is dark all the time, and when you realised it, you have not enough time to sleep. For morning study, you can see the sky is brightening and you should get yourself prepared up for school and your family will call you up for breakfast and school, you have 'automatic' alarm then.

  5. Concentration is a vital part of study. Like in Point 3, most people can focus for 30 to 45 minutes. So, after you have studied for that long, take a break, perhaps 10 minutes, stand, walk around, have a drink (water is the best), chat a while with your family to relax yourself, facebook-ing is ok but must limit yourself into that 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, get back to study immediately, switch your mind back to study mood, don't drag. And if you have done it well, like able to maintain it for 2 to 3 hours or made progression in the study, reward yourself a bit, maybe some light snacks, a bite of chocolate, to motivate yourself to keep it up.

  6. Perhaps, during your study, you might have some calls or sms, it is not wrong to answer the call or read the message, because you might not know the call or sms maybe an emergency. If you realised that the call is not important or urgent, cut it short, you can do it during your break. Same for sms, important and urgent, reply it, if not, reply it later. If the friend is your good friend, he/she won't blame you for replying it late (not no reply). Therefore, put your handphone aside when you are studying, touch it only when the call or sms come in, and when you want to look at the time.

  7. It is not wrong to take an afternoon nap, 15 minutes is the best according to research. 15 minutes is for your body to rest and refresh. After 15 minutes, your brain start to switch into sleeping mode, and if you wake up after that, you will feel tire instead of refreshed. Well, for me, my afternoon nap is in "fishing" style.

  8. Teachers are there for something. You can ask them question, if can't you can discuss it with your friends, this is college style, not wrong if you adapt it earlier, but your questions must make sense. Teachers, they would highlighted the main points for you, believe it or not. That's why if you are focusing in your class, you are half-way through your revisions.

  9. You can make your own notes (which I seldom do it), or scribble something useful on the notes teachers gave (I prefer this because I am a bit lazy on making my own notes). However, the best is to do your own notes, because it is in your way, you can read your own word easily, if others can understand, they can read too. As you write, you remember it.

  10. Last but not least, discipline yourself, it makes all work.

So, good luck for your coming SPM, and wish you can keep up the good way of study always, because you will need it more when you are in college. Don't frustrate that you can't do it, but believe that you can improve it. Exercise do make perfect, especially for add maths.

*You can modify a bit on above points to suit yourself, and by the way, some of the points like wake up freaking early (3am) is just for exam period. For normal day, you can choose to wake up at 5 or 6am for daily study, but not too much. Normal days, relax once in a while, your life is not just study, there is other things too in your life. Just for exam period only, put the enjoy and entertainment aside for a while, you can have more after it is over. Hehe, seriously warn you, don't be a nerd.

*it is ok for you to pass this off to your other friends, as I hope this can benefit them not just now, but in the future too.
